Starting the new semester and already hearing talk of the JCU Gladiators in the corridors, I couldn't help but notice how it was all about the boy's soccer team. Whether it was during try-outs, the creation of a new team or the excitement over future games, there was seldom any mention of the Lady Gladiators. I asked a variety of students their opinion on the matter. There was a clear sense that people enjoyed watching the boy's play because the games were usually more aggressive and that is what everyone wanted to see on the field.
The other issue, however, is the lack of advertising for the games; students have seen little or no information around campus and barely hear anything about the players on the girl's team. Students did say that they would love to come watch if they knew more details. The interesting fact is that most students recognized how the girls had better scores than the boys, and as I recall at the end of last semester, were wondering where they had been when they were winning. My pitch: I encourage all of you to come out and support! The upcoming games are on February 15 against L.U.M.S.A. and on February 22 against AUR Derby, both which will be played on the home field.
